Are you all caught up with Kendall Elise’s loves, inspirations and dreams? Check out our interview from earlier this week here!
Now, it has been awhile since the last Devel Vs Project, I know, but when you see what Kendall and I created together, I think you’ll agree that the wait was worth it!
Kendall was in search for the perfect vintage’y dress to wear for her performance at the APRA Golden Guitar Awards in Gore this week, and I jumped at the chance to create something perfectly ‘Kendall Elise’ branded and gorgeously vintage-inspired for her. Cos that’s my bag, baby!!
And so, with a design brief of ‘black and/or red wiggle dress’ in my mind, I sketched out a few options for Kendall to mull over, and we rested on this spectacular shimmier… which I’ve dubbed The Kendall Dress.
The design comes from a mash-up of a Joan Holloway style (cos, va-va-VOOM!) and 1960’s Wanda Jackson (cos, shimmy-shimmy fringing!), and includes a beautiful sweeping neckline, to show off the line of Kendall’s graceful neck and shoulder, and a tailored hourglass shape, to accentuate Kendall’s vintage bombshell figure.
The dress is made of a classic black, medium-weight stretch cotton, to hold the structured shape well, and features pops of red for a bit of fun and sass! Red rose appliqués wrap themselves over her shoulders, as a nod to the alt-country style of Kendall’s music, while deep red fabric flashes to attention under the movement of vintage long-line black fringing (bought from the El Jay workroom, no less!) at the hem. The three rows of fringing wrap around Kendall’s legs on the diagonal, to further flatter her hourglass curves.
Being placed on the diagonal meant that the fringing that reached beyond the skirt hem needed trimming, which, to both my delight and anxiety, was best undertaken in a ‘haircut’ type fashion. Flashes of ‘fail’ videos showing people trying to cut their own bangs ran through my head, and I’m pretty sure I held my breath for the whole time I was cutting carefully around the hem. Totally worth it in the end, because I’m beyond ecstatic with the final result! And who doesn’t love a good shimmy in a dress covered in fringing?? So much fun!!
Oh and BONUS, we added a side-pocket! And it’s big enough to hold a phone, but of course.
If you love the Kendall Dress as much as Kendall and I, the dress is available for FIVE limited edition orders in the webstore NOW. Don’t miss out!
A HUGE good luck to Kendall for her night at the Golden Guitar Awards tonight!! All our fingers are crossed for you!
