Miss Ruby Rabbit is a vintage fashion pro; she has an eye for quality and loves interesting details and fabrics that stand out from the crowd.  A couple of her current favourite things in vintage fashion are fringing and gold lame, and she was seen wearing both at the recent Viva Las Vegas retro-fest, in Las Vegas.

Fringing and gold… now what type of garments are conjured in the imagination when thinking of these?  You guessed it!  Something vintage-inspired (of course!), something a bit luxe, and something WESTERN!  Think the daughters of Dallas oil barons of old; sweet southern drawls, bright wide eyes, golden ringlets and dazzling smiles.  Top-to-toe looks that use two-tone detailing, that shimmer and shimmy as they walk.

And so was born, The Ruby Capelet.

The main body of the capelet is made from soft dusky pink wool (100%), with white duchess satin yokes, collar and self-covered button.  The buttonhole is finished by hand and the garment is lined in white satin.  The yokes are edged with white fringing that shimmies with the wearer’s movements, and the rounded collar is edged with gold satin piping.

And then there’s the pièce de résistance… two glistening hand-stitched initials in gold metallic thread; chain-stitched to give the effect of golden rope…

There’s even a loop in the back neck, so you can hang your pretty capelet well away from your muddy cowgirl boots.

Ruby chose the colours of the capelet, based on a cute Powderpuff Boutique dress she already owned, covered in little rodeo cowgirls.  I think the colour combo is really sweet, and (dare I say) it reminds me of darling little rabbits with smooth shiny white coats and soft pink ears.

Ruby styled this fun shoot with the help of her talented photographer friend, Tina Meeson.  Look at it!  Baby Chickens!

If you or a rootin’-tootin’ cowgirl that you know would like a Ruby Capelet (NZ$329) of your very own, then don’t hesitate to flick me a message!  You can pick your own colours and initials, and there’ll only ever be FIVE made, so you know you’re getting something extra special for your collection.

Hope you enjoy this sweet eye-candy as much as I enjoyed making it!
