This month I worked with Samara, aka Pepper Anne or Lady Trample, on a limited edition design that would incorporate all three of her loves into one; Roller Derby, Illustration and Nautical Vintage.

With both her Pepper Anne and Lady Trample hats on, Samara has designed graphics for her fellow roller-gals under the name Chicks in Bowls.  Not only do these gals train derby-style, they also like to kick it in skate parks and bowls around the city.  I really loved her clever logo design for Chicks in Bowls, and knew that I wanted to include it in my garment design for her.

After sketching and collaborating with Samara, a vintage-style skater skirt was born.

I kept the colourway and shape nautical and vintage; showing a white appliqué design on a high-waisted full-circle navy skirt.  The full-circle skirt allows ease of movement for skating in, and is oh-so fun for spinning and swirling!  Roller derby gals sure do have some killer pins to show off!  And speaking of pins, the appliqué is in the form of the toned legs of a hand-planting roller gal, from Samara’s Chicks in Bowls design above.

The Samara Skater Skirt is made of 100% cotton, to allow the wearer to breathe and remain cool during these hot summer months.  The waistband is super stable by use of very stiff fusing, to help carry the weight of the full-circle.

The Samara Skater Skirt (NZ$195) is available in three colourways, chosen from the roller derby teams Samara is involved in; Navy, Red and Black.  Which team do you support?

This is a limited release design, available for 5 orders only.

Edit:  Only ONE Samara Skater Skirt left… Will it be yours?  If you’re in love, flick me an email quick-smart!
